The Arizona Legislature is crafting the state budget for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2026. Join more than 400 Audubon supporters in telling them to invest in Arizona’s natural resources today.

Each year, Audubon Southwest outlines its priorities for Arizona’s state budget. Along with you, our powerful grassroots network, we advocate for investments to maintain and protect our lands and waters.

Now is the time to contact your lawmakers in the Arizona Legislature and encourage them to include funding to steward Arizona’s natural resources in the state budget.

Audubon Southwest supports the following state funding investments to protect Arizona’s lands and waters for the next fiscal year:  

• $30 million for the Colorado River Protection Fund
• Maintain current funding levels for the Arizona Department of Water Resources
• Preserve existing monies in the Water Supply Development Revolving Fund
• $9.5 million for the Water Quality Fee Fund  
• $3 million for salt cedar removal and reestablishing native plants
• $1 million for the Arizona State Parks Heritage Fund
• $100,000 for the Arizona Trail
• Funding for existing state programs that could make an immediate impact through water conservation, efficiency, reuse, groundwater recharge, and forest and watershed health

Protecting Arizona’s lands and waters for generations to come requires continued investment from the state. Urge your legislators to craft a state budget that incorporates the funding necessary to safeguard Arizona’s natural resources that communities, businesses, farms, and birds—like Yellow-breasted Chat—depend on.

Last week, Governor Hobbs vetoed a budget for Arizona that included NO FUNDING for 9th Grade On-Track programs.  Save 9th Grade On-Track

We don’t need to tell you why that’s detrimental for students. Lower graduation rates. Lower on-track rates. Increased absenteeism. Less career or college preparedness.  

Those are all the dangers from eliminating this program. We can’t afford to cut this funding. Please tell your legislators to support 9th Grade On-Track funding in the Arizona budget!

While you were worshipping safely this Sunday, Christians in Nigeria were worshipping under gunfire.

On May 9, hundreds of Fulani militants surrounded the Christian town of Barkin Ladi, Nigeria, spraying bullets into villages for hours while families ran for their lives. Churches cut services short. Some canceled entirely. Parents hid children in bushes while local volunteers — armed mostly with homemade shotguns — stood between their communities and slaughter.

Eight Christians were killed. Many more were wounded. Hospitals quickly ran out of morphine and anesthesia.

And yet one local believer said:

“People are still willing to defend their communities with the last drop of their blood.”

This is the reality for countless Christians across Nigeria’s Middle Belt. Entire communities are under siege while much of the world looks away.
