Hot Diggity Dog! How to Pick the Incomparable Wienie 500

Sam Panayotovich

Sam Panayotovich

FOX Sports Betting Analyst

This Friday, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Chi Dog (Midwest) is one of six Wienermobiles set to race in the second annual Oscar Mayer Wienie 500. It joins the New York Dog (East), Chili Dog (South), Seattle Dog (Northwest), last year’s winner Slaw Dog (Southeast) and the newest competitor via fan vote, Corn Dog.

One of my jobs around these parts is to handicap sporting events, dive inside the odds and give you an educated idea of what to bet. Thing is, not a single American sportsbook is taking wagers on the Wienie 500.

Why?

“Is that a serious question?” Circa Sports director of operations Jeff Benson texted me earlier this week. “It isn’t approved by gaming. You know that.”

I did know, but Benson’s reaction was worth the ask.

So we can’t bet on it, but I still have a wienie in the race. And you will, too. Odds are good you’ll root for the hot dog that brings back your best childhood memories. Nostalgia tends to hit home in events like this.READ FULL STORY

I’m standing in the Makerfield by-election as a Fox..

ROB POWNALL

MAY 21

Just when I thought I might get a few months off from standing in national elections, arguably the biggest by-election in recent history gets announced.

And just as I stood in the Scottish elections dressed as a giant Gannet to raise awareness for the campaign to end the Guga hunt, I’ll now be doing the same in the ongoing fight to finally bring an end to hunting with hounds.

The costume is ready — admittedly a little more terrifying-looking than the Gannet — and today I’m in Wigan to officially hand in my paperwork and secure my place on the ballot.

Why am I doing this?

Because I simply do not trust this Government to deliver for animals.

They’ve already u-turned on banning animal trophy imports, abandoned plans to ban foie gras imports, and allowed two more years of badger culling despite manifesto promises suggesting the exact opposite.

Right now, there’s a public consultation underway on banning trail hunting, but I still fear it won’t go far enough. There is still no clarity on whether all of the loopholes and exemptions in the Hunting Act will finally be removed. No clarity on how they will actually ensure the hunting of wild mammals is ended for good. And no clarity whatsoever on when meaningful legislative action will happen.

We cannot afford to sit back, hope for the best, and allow this issue to quietly fade away.

This by-election provides a national platform to raise these concerns, to pressure the Government to finally end hunting as quickly as possible, and to send that message directly to the man who could become the next Prime Minister.

If you’re reading this and haven’t already done so, please use our handy tool to fill out the public consultation on hunting in just a matter of seconds.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend

SIGN THE CARD

THE COST OF FREEDOM

BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY, TAKE A MOMENT TO REMEMBERSIGN THE CARD

USO Supporter,

In the days leading up to Memorial Day, many of us are looking ahead to time with family and friends. But for many military families and for those who serve, this moment carries a deeper meaning.

And the weight of that sacrifice isn’t always visible.

It lives in moments of reflection. In memories carried forward. In the enduring impact felt long after service ends. Through the dignified transfers we’ve witnessed in recent months, as fallen service members were returned to their families with honor.

As Memorial Day approaches, take a moment to recognize those who serve and sacrifice by adding your name to our Memorial Day card. SIGN THE CARD NOW

When supporters like you come together, it sends a lasting message to our heroes in uniform: We honor your sacrifice, and we will never forget.

Our goal is to gather 250,000 signatures by Memorial Day — and your name can help us get there.

Will you stand with those who serve and sign the Memorial Day card today?ADD YOUR NAME

Thank you for taking a moment to honor those who sacrifice so much to defend our freedom.

For the People Who Serve,

The USO

Jay Watch Helps Protect Florida’s Only Endemic BirdFlorida Scrub-Jays have declined by 90% in the last century due to habitat destruction and fragmentation. A key to saving this threatened species is managing their remaining habitat, but the land managers don’t always have the capacity to monitor scrub-jays. Enter Jay Watch, our community science program that helps protect Florida’s only endemic bird. Learn how our dedicated volunteers are helping guide the Florida Scrub-Jay’s habitat management.

What Comes Next After This Colorado River Crisis?

The Colorado River Basin is at a defining moment. Exacerbating the already unfolding water supply crisis, this past winter was especially woeful to the Colorado River and its depleting reservoirs. What can we do next? Our joint comment letter to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation advocates for the agency to manage risks for people and nature rather than deferring hard decisions until emergency conditions force action. Keep reading for our basinwide perspective on the Colorado River crisis.
